What does CSA stand for?
CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture”. A CSA brings high quality and fresh produce grown by local farmers to a neighborhood or area. CSA members buy “shares” of a farm’s yield, upfront, to cover the farm operational costs during a the season. In return, members receive weekly deliveries of fresh organic vegetables, fruits, and eggs. The direct partnership between farmer and member cuts out the middlemen, and translates on a fresher, more affordable produce than when bought from the supermarket.

Where does our produce come from?
We partner with Norwich Meadows, a USDA and NOFA certified organic farm near Binghamton in upstate New York.  Zaid, our farmer picks up our veggies on Wednesdays and drives into the city every Thursday to deliver the harvest. It can’t get any fresher than that!

How about the fruit?
Red Jacket Orchards provides most of our fruits, except for the melons and watermelons that come from Norwich Meadows. In respect to the environment, Red Jacket employs Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices and is certified by Food Alliance as a sustainable producer of plums, apricots, and prunes.  It’s as good as it gets!

What types of shares are there?
We currently offer individual ($15/wk) and family ($30/wk) vegetables shares. Veggies are delivered every week, while fruits and eggs can be delivered weekly or bi-weekly. All members need to commit to a vegetable share. Fruit and eggs shares are optional.

How much does a share cost?
An individual vegetable share is $300 or $15/wk (enough for 2-3 people) and a family share $600 or $30/wk (3-5). Each vegetable share runs for approximately 20-22 weeks. Fruit shares cost $12/wk and eggs are $8/wk.

What types of veggies and fruits will I get?
Items are seasonal and vary as the season progresses. Each veggie share will include 6-8 different types of veggies each week. Each item is not just one veggie, it can be up to 2lbs, as with the tomatoes share. Check our Distribution List for a detailed list of what’s included on a share. Do you have other products?
This year we only have vegetables, fruits, and eggs. But we hope to expand our offerings next year to include meat (Norwich’s are both USDA and Halal), granola, honey and maple syrup, herbs, and much more.

Do I have to be an Ozone Park resident to join?
Definitely not. Our pickup location is off of Pitkin Ave (bet 87th & 86th Sts.) in Ozone Park, Queens. We welcome everyone! Our members come from Ozone Park, the Rockaways, Forrest Hills, and Middle Village.

What’s the deadline to join?
We are the only CSA in Queens still taking members thru July 15th. But hurry! Distribution has already started and you’re missing the goodies.

How do I join?
To become a member, you need to fill our sign up form and pay the full amount of a share (individual or family) in a money order, made out to Norwich Meadows Farm. Call 718.323.0793 or email us to receive our registration form.
